Oni x tanuki9/10/2023 ![]() ![]() The denim is rope dyed, so the fades you want to achieve are still possible and will be very special. Now we hear you think: natural indigo doesn't create contrasting fades, and that's boring! This pair however is different. The dye used is a natural indigo from India, that is not used anywhere else in the Japanese denim market. You’ll notice the irregularities of Oni’s denim, with a nice rough feel. It's made of a hefty 20oz cloth, so it's perfect for the colder months. ![]() At DC4, we offer the 'Ultra Slim' model, a modern slim fit with a tapered leg. That leaves us to discuss the jeans itself. It wants the quality of the denim and construction do the talking. Tanuki focusses on a more minimalist approach of jeans, and doesn't add too much vintage detailing. Who they are and where they are from is irrelevant. Whilst we know at least the name of the founder of Oni (see our previous post about Oni), the people behind Tanuki only want their customers to know that they have many decades of experience in the denim market. a collaboration between two of the most secretive Japanese denim brands out there: Tanuki and Oni. A quick comparison between the two tanuki secret denim collaborations in 20 and 21.5 oz.With the introduction of Oni jeans at DC4 Berlin, we have something special in store. Here is a comparison review post by u/Bobbedigital which might help shed some light for you. I would probably base my decision on which one I liked the looks of the best when they are in their brand-new unworn condition. So since both of those OT models are dyed similarly and have similar warp textures, they will still fade similarly to each other, just with slightly different colors. Which means they will fade like most other rope-dyed denims with lots of texture fades. You can tell from the price of that natural indigo model that they are not dyed with the much more expensive hank-dyeing method but are dyed with the typical rope-dyeing method just like how most other Japanese denims are dyed. The fades on both will be approximately the same, just having different shades of blue along the way since they both start out with slightly different shades of blue and also with different weft peek-thru colors to begin with.
